why somatics?

have you ever cognitively known or believed something, but been unable to feel or experience it?

put differently, have you ever viscerally felt something or some way that contradicts your values or beliefs about yourself, others, or the world?

maybe you believe that rest is not something you have to earn through productivity, but you still feel that physical pang of guilt when resting.

maybe you believe gender is a vast and expansive spectrum, but you still feel like an imposter.

maybe you believe your partner to be trustworthy, but you still feel overcome with jealousy.

maybe you believe you’re not a bad person when your room is messy, but you still feel like you’re failing.

maybe you believe that bodies are worthy of love and care when they are ill or in pain, but you still feel ashamed about your body.

The ways in which we contradict ourselves are endless.

and somatics is a bridge.

a bridge between and beyond binaries

a bridge between mind & body

a bridge between head & heart

a bridge between knowing & feeling

a bridge to the middles and the margins

somatics allows us to tolerate, sustain, and tend to relationship with our many contradictions.

somatics does not resolve, it relates

(and sometimes relating resolves).
